West Waterford Festival of Food

WWFoF 2015 was the best yet! Here are some pics of our forage and cookery demos. Great to have some really enthusiastic children on the forage and to meet people who had known my extended family in Ballymarket, Stradbally and around the Dungarvan area. We always feel very welcome in the town, especially at the food festival.

This year for the first time, we joined Karen Ward for a Rude Food Cookery demo in the Town Hall, organised by Rob and Anne of Blasta Wholefoods. We made Sea Lettuce & Hummous Wraps, Aubergine stuffed with Sea Gardener Caponata & Mozarella and White Chocolate, Raspberry & Blackberry Carrageen Pudding. Karen made 2 healthy raw food dishes. Delighted with the reaction to the tastes.  And all this food was so healthy.... so we can have it all - healthy AND delicious!

SGC Cinema used Sea Gardener Bars for it's "Munching at the Movies" feature, along with other locally-produced foods. What a nice idea! And we discovered the interesting programme of "Stage to Screen" Films....from Museums, Theatres and Operas around the world, so we'll be back to SGC.

Back on the Quay, for Seafood Saturday, we offered a Mulligatawny Soup (with seaweed) and Blaas (filled with a choice of Seaweed Butter, Dilisk or Mushroom & Olive Caponata) for went down a treat with festival goers. That is, until the gazebo nearly took off in a gust of wind. So we closed up shop and headed to Clonea. Emma, Gerry & Darragh meanwhile ran an excellent stall in the Enterprising Food Markey, alongside Aurelia's Foods, Trish's Honey Products, Sea of Vitality, Early Bird Eggs, Tastefully Yours and other small,  local producers.  This initiative is highly successful for showcasing new producers & products.

All hands were on deck for what was a busy weekend, so thanks a mill to Emma, Gerry and Darragh. To Trudi and the students of Mercyhurst College who stewarded at Clonea. To Eimhin, Catherine, Natasha & Aine and all the staff and volunteers who make the Festival the success it is.

About Us

We are passionate about seaweed - foraging for it, cooking with it, sharing our knowledge and experience with others, sustainably using it, recognising that it is part of an important and quite amazing ecological web.

Marie Power, aka, The Sea Gardener, grew up on the Copper Coast of Co. Waterford and leads walks, give talks & workshops on seaweed and rocky shore ecology for people who want to know more about this indigenous health food.
