Kenmare Bay Forage

We went to Kenmare Food Carnival this year – a  first – and took the Sea Safari boat  from the pier to Dromquinna Manor where we disembarked to forage for seaweed along the shore and an insight into rock shore ecology.  Thanks to Karen, Natalie (who took these photos) and Una, the boat crew and the couple who gave us delicious chanterelles from the local woods afterwards!

As. well as the seaweed forage, participants in this event were treated to the wildlife of Kenmare Bay with a lively commentary by Raymond Ross   – we saw lots of birdlife, beautiful landscape and estuarine habitat, and mother & pup seals basking on the rocks. This was done with great sensitivity and reminders that we were visitors to their habitat, not just consumers of wildlife entertainment.

About Us

We are passionate about seaweed - foraging for it, cooking with it, sharing our knowledge and experience with others, sustainably using it, recognising that it is part of an important and quite amazing ecological web.

Marie Power, aka, The Sea Gardener, grew up on the Copper Coast of Co. Waterford and leads walks, give talks & workshops on seaweed and rocky shore ecology for people who want to know more about this indigenous health food.
