Bia Sasta at Garryvoe Beach East Cork

Bia Sasta is a Facebook page worth checking out if you live in Cork and are interested in food. I met many of the members last saturday at Garryvoe Beach in east Cork and we foraged and feasted on the bounty of the sea. On a glorious summer’s day, we found carrageen, sleabhcan, pepper dulse, dilisk, sweet kelp, sea lettuce and enteromorpha. Elke treated us to a delicious picnic of seaweed salads, cookies and breads - all recipes from The Sea Garden. The Chocolate Carrageen Mousse was the best I’ve tasted!

About Us

We are passionate about seaweed - foraging for it, cooking with it, sharing our knowledge and experience with others, sustainably using it, recognising that it is part of an important and quite amazing ecological web.

Marie Power, aka, The Sea Gardener, grew up on the Copper Coast of Co. Waterford and leads walks, give talks & workshops on seaweed and rocky shore ecology for people who want to know more about this indigenous health food.
