Bia Sasta is a Facebook page worth checking out if you live in Cork and are interested in food. I met many of the members last saturday at Garryvoe Beach in east Cork and we foraged and feasted on the bounty of the sea. On a glorious summer’s day, we found carrageen, sleabhcan, pepper dulse, dilisk, sweet kelp, sea lettuce and enteromorpha. Elke treated us to a delicious picnic of seaweed salads, cookies and breads - all recipes from The Sea Garden. The Chocolate Carrageen Mousse was the best I’ve tasted!
Garryvoe beach was perfect for access to the seaweed, but generally, smaller rocky coves with no pipes or nutrient-laden streams are best.
